Arrest in murder of bank executive and grandmother in Reseda – NBC Los Angeles

Los Angeles Police Department detectives arrested a 52-year-old man on suspicion of murder hours after bank executive and grandmother Michelle Avan was found dead Thursday morning at her Reseda home.

Anthony Duwayne Turner was arrested Thursday night by detectives assigned to the Homicide and Robbery Division and was being held at Van Nuys Prison in lieu of $ 2 million bail, prison records show, which also describe Turner’s profession as a “banker”.

Several law enforcement sources said that NBC4’s I-Team Turner had a personal relationship with Avan and that she had recently considered obtaining a restraining order against him. Turner was detained near his home in Westchester.

A spokesperson for the LAPD had no further information on the case or the arrest on Friday.

Avan was discovered unconscious by family members around 7 a.m. Thursday. She was pronounced dead at the scene and detectives said she appeared to have “suffered trauma to her face.”

Avan had two children and a grandchild.

In June, LA Sentinel newspaper featured her in her new role as senior vice president of human resources at financial firm Merrill Lynch.

“As one of the highest ranked and most recognized women in banking, she would always find a way to uplift people,” retired banking executive Darrell Brown told NBC4’s Beverly White.

“Pull them up, push them up, especially in African American communities,” he said. “Forgotten, private – she had the passion to make sure she was a foundation and a launching pad.”
