Click Fraud prevention firm Polygraph warns of increased risk for payday loan industry
BERLIN, April 25, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Some advertisers are inadvertently wasting the majority of their online marketing budgets by falling victim to click fraud. It’s a growing threat to all online businesses, although some are more at risk than others, with payday loan companies quickly becoming a prime target for click fraudsters.
Thanks to the experience gained from previous fraudulent behavior, scammers are now able to circumvent the methods that have been created to prevent the most notorious forms of online fraud. This means that click fraud has become an easy, yet profitable way for them to earn millions of pounds at the expense of advertisers.
Click fraud is committed by displaying genuine advertisements, using high value keywords that are most requested by advertisers, on fake websites. As publishers receive money each time an advertisement is clicked, criminal gangs have learned that by creating websites to display advertisements, acting as legitimate publisher accounts, they can choose which advertisements are displayed. and how often they are clicked. By using technology and trickery, they can force a large number of web visitors to click on the ads actually placed, which means the scammers earn compensation for each click.
Because fraudsters use real clicks and methods that many advertising platforms are not yet able to detect, click fraud gangs are experiencing high levels of success.
Payday loan companies are one of the most exposed targets for this type of fraud, with the threat against them increasing.
According to Trey Vanes, Director of Marketing at click on Polygraph fraud detection company, cybercriminals target payday loan ads because of their high payout rate. “Scammers look for advertising keywords that pay the most per click and use these keywords to force high paying ads to appear on their scam websites. lucrative, this has created a situation where thousands of click fraud gangs are targeting payday loan ads.
By displaying ads based on over 1,000 of the most popular payday loan related keywords, criminal gangs are siphoning off huge sums of money from advertisers and profiting for themselves.
By infiltrating genuine Internet searches, using real clicks from innocent and unsuspecting visitors, scammers profit from the money that others have spent on their legitimate online advertising campaigns. Fraudsters are believed to be making millions of pounds illegally from this scam, and this figure will continue to rise unless more is done to tackle crime.
Since up to 80% of advertisers’ genuine customer clicks are now considered fake under certain circumstances, particularly in the payday loan industry, real advertising budgets are being destroyed due to the sheer number of fake clicks generated by click fraud.
Complicating the issue is that many ad networks fail to detect these fake clicks, leaving advertisers footing the bill for their stolen ad campaigns.
Polygraph has developed its own techniques to detect click fraud, removing it from the hands of advertising agencies and publishers. These methods were created by monitoring the activities of cybercriminals, using their own insider-based manual explaining how click fraud is committed.
By detecting fraud risks before they happen, Polygraph can tell advertisers which of their keywords are likely to be targeted, which networks are sending them the most fraudulent clicks, provide evidence of fake clicks so that advertisers can claim refunds from the networks and then block bots from seeing their Google ads.
“This problem won’t go away on its own, and it’s a high-risk strategy to hope ad networks will protect you,” Vanes added. “The reality is that we have clients who were wasting most of their advertising budgets on click fraud. By taking action and using an independent click fraud detection service to protect them from false clicks, they now have effective advertising campaigns and no longer have to worry about being scammed by criminals.”
Polygraph can monitor the most risky keywords and help protect advertisers’ budgets from click fraud.
